“First, the distinctive opulence of white vibernum garlands mingle with sparkling notes of manderine and bergamot, lifting the senses.”
The top note of the fragrance comes from vibernum, combined with the sparkling notes of bergamot and mandarine. Vibernum is a plant never used in perfumery before – which adds its subtle colour to English gardens in spring. Its flowers begin as a round burst of light green blooms, which, as they open, become a creamy white with fragrance notes which are as opulent as their flowers. Martin Gras introduced vibernum flowers to create a smell of the countryside that would capture by headspace, also play on these of transformation and surprise. According to Martin Gras, its initial scent, present in the top notes, has a green freshness similar to hyacinths, but, as the blooms turn white, it also possesses an elegant spicy note (similar to carnation) and a warm oriental note (similar to lilac) which are also present as the fragrance develops. It’s this transformation which gives an “Boudoir” such unusual opulence.
